Important Family & Safety Considerations:

  • Age Limits: For safety, most “Big 5” walking safaris require children to be at least 12, 14, or 16 years old. Primate trekking in Uganda/Rwanda is strictly 15+.
  • Best Time: The dry season (June to October) is ideal as vegetation is thin, making animals easier to spot and walking conditions more comfortable.
  • Safety: Walks are led by highly trained, often armed, professional guides. Always walk in a single file and follow every instruction from your ranger.
  • Fitness: Most walks are not endurance tests; they typically cover 3–5 kilometers over 2–4 hours at a steady, observational pace.
