Mount Kenya Climbing

Mount Kenya climbing on Sirimon route is the highest mountain in Kenya and the second-highest in Africa, after mount Kilimanjaro. This tour will take you climbing Mount Kenya on the Sirimon route. Mount Kenya climbing is one of the easiest and most scenic routes. 

The highest peaks of the mountain are Batian (5,199 metres (17,057 ft)), Nelion (5,188 metres (17,021 ft)) and Point Lenana (4,985 metres (16,355 ft)). Mount Kenya is located in central Kenya, just south of the equator, around 150 kilometres (93 mi) north-northeast of the capital Nairobi. Mount Kenya is the source of the name of the Republic of Kenya.

Day 1: Nairobi/Sirimon/Judmaier Camp (Old Moses Camp) 3-4 hrs, 9km, 860m ascent

Leave Nairobi at 8am to Nanyuki town for lunch; this should take about 4 hours. Proceed to Sirimon Gate for 1 hr, 2440m. From the gate follow the track as it winds uphill through the forest which becomes heath land after about 3 hrs. About 3 hours from the gate, the track veers right to Judmaier Camp, 3300m for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Judmaier Camp/Shipton Camp 6-7hrs, 14km, 900m ascent

After breakfast, follow the track uphill, forking left at the junction. After one hour from Old Moses Camp, the track crosses Ontulili River. Go right contouring through the Moorland crossing Liki North and continue uphill to Mackinders Valley from where there are panoramic views up the valley towards the main peaks. Dinner and overnight is at Shipton Camp, 4200m.

Day 3: Shipton Camp/Point Lenana/Judmaier Camp (Old Moses Camp) 9-10hrs, 21km

Leave at 3am up a steep stony quarry that cuts through a cliff clearing visible part towards lower Hall Tarns. You will be arriving at point Lenana at 6:30am, taking about 3hrs. After the sunrise, descend down to Shipton Camp for breakfast and further 4hrs down to Old Moses Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Mount Kenya to Nairobi Overnight Kenya Comfort Hotel B/B

After breakfast, walk down through the rainforest for 2 hours to connect with your transport vehicle back to Nairobi. Overnight will be at Kenya Comfort Hotel. Kenya Comfort Hotel is centrally located in the city near shopping mall, banks, and restaurants.

Day 5: Nairobi Airport Transfer

After breakfast, and depending on your flight we can offer you an airport transfer. If you would like a city tour of Nairobi it will be arranged with an extra cost.

Note: The above prices are based on a minimum of 2 persons. A price reduction is available for numbers above two persons. Six persons may enjoy up to 10% saving on the per person rate!

**PLEASE NOTE: The tour can be upgraded to a higher standard accommodation at an extra cost. It can also be cheaper if less expensive (but still good quality) accommodation is used. The final cost of the tour depends on your budget and preference.
