Explore Classic South Africa trip you will pay visits  to an assortment of African eco-system’s as well as the highlights of the country, but leave the worn paths in order to explore the beautifully vast wilderness. Our overnight stops are spent in immaculate reserves where many conservation and game introduction projects have been created, providing unique accommodation and gorgeous surrounds. This adventure requires a certain amount of flexibility as well as an intrepid mentality.

Day 1: Johannesburg – Bush Lodge. 
We leave the busy city of Johannesburg at 06h30 from Drifters Johannesburg Lodge and journey along the picturesque road to Mpumalanga. On the way, we pay a visit to Dullstroom, cross over Robbers Pass and spend some time at the charming historic town of Pilgrim’s Rest. We also drop by Bourke’s Luck Potholes and the Blyde River Canyon. Following this, we snake our way down the slopes to the Lowveld bushveld where we spend our night at Drifters Bush Lodge. Situated in a private reserve that lies unfenced and adjacent to the Kruger Park, the tented Lodge is attractively designed and blends well with its surroundings. It also boasts comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms, a lovely splash pool and magnificent views overlooking the encircling forest. Our dinner tonight is cooked on an open fire. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 2: Bush Lodge

Today begins with customary coffee and rusks, following which we head out on a game walk. We trek for about three hours, seeking out game and stopping at regular intervals in order to understand more about the ways of the bush. A guide and tracker lead us expertly on all walks in which we partake. We go back to the Lodge in the early afternoon for some brunch, after which we can spend the remainder of our day unwinding next to the pool and enjoying our surrounds. In the afternoon, we embark on an open vehicle game drive that turns into a long and thrilling night drive. Exploring the wilderness in the night gives us a chance to see some nocturnal animals that we would usually not get to see on our game drives. Tonight we delight in a tasty bush ‘braai’ and once again, fall asleep to the sounds of nature. Meals Included: Brunch, Dinner

Day 3: Hazyview

We have a relaxing start to our day today and journey through the rural Bushbuck ridge region to the quiet settlement of Hazyview. From here, we move on to a log cabin splendidly located on stilts in indigenous tropical forests on the Sabie Riverbanks. In the afternoon, we have time at our leisure to devote to unwinding at the bird hide or indulging in a delightful swim/forest walk. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4: Kruger National Park

We depart early from Hazyview and travel a brief distance to the famous Kruger National Park. Here, our entire day is spent viewing animals from the wonderful vantage point of our well-equipped vehicle. We stop for lunch and then spend our evening in one of the park’s rest camps. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Days 5-6: Swaziland/Zululand

We journey south through the Kingdom of Swaziland, into an area of incredible scenery and past countless traditional homesteads and curio markets en-route. We then enter Zululand, a region once ruled by the famous Shaka Zulu. This area is filled with game reserves and remarkable scenery. Our following two nights are spent at the wonderful accommodation located in the sand forest on a private game reserve that connects with the World Heritage Site of St Lucia. We embark on a game walk during our stay here, and climb aboard an open vehicle for a game drive through Hluhluwe Game Reserve. Meals Included: Breakfast X2, Lunch X2, Dinner X2

Day 7: Dolphin Coast

We have a brief drive today, journeying to one of the world’s grandest coastlines where the sparkling waves of the Indian Ocean constantly pound the shores of deserted beaches. Our evening will be spent at the Drifters Dolphin Coast Lodge, located right on the beach. Here, our time will be dedicated to relaxing, soaking up the sun and simply relishing in the warm beach and glittering sea. This evening we are treated to a traditional fish braai that takes place on the Lodge’s patio. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Days 8-9: Drakensburg

Following a stop in the gorgeous city of Durban where we have the option to visit the uShaka Marine World or explore the Golden Mile and traditional markets, we journey inland to the mighty Drakensburg mountain range, ‘Barrier of Spears’. Today’s lunch will be at your own expense in Durban. Upon our arrival at the foothills, we climb into a 4X4 vehicle and embark on a thrilling drive up the mountain route to Drifters Drakensberg Lodge, where we will be spending two evenings in comfortable log cabins. Our time here is spent hiking and discovering the marvels of this National Heritage Site, as well as paying a visit to a San rock art area. Pony trekking is also available here. Meals Included: Breakfast X2, Lunch, Dinner X2

Day 10: Eastern Free State

Once we’ve returned to our vehicle, we cross the Oliviershoek Pass to catch a glimpse of the gorgeous turquoise waters of the Sterkfontein Dam. Following this, we head through the Golden Gate National Park, famous for its sky-high sandstone cliffs and abundance of diverse wildlife. Today, we eat lunch at our own expense in the quaint village of Clarens. Clients will be given time to explore the local art galleries and other attractions. Our night will be spent in a small village located in the Eastern Free State. Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

Days 11-12: Karoo

Travelling along lesser-known dirt roads, we make our way into the arid Karoo interior. We journey through charming and remote farming villages, including Nieu Bethesda to the Drifters Karoo Lodge. We spend our following two evenings in stone cottages located within a vast game reserve. Our traditional cottages date back to early settlers and is nestled against the Sneeuberg Mountains. Throughout our stay here, we take part in lengthy walks through unspoiled mountainous landscapes that act as home to a massive assortment of indigenous fauna and flora. Meals Included: Breakfast X2, Lunch X2, Dinner X2

Days 13-15: Garden Route

Today we get an early start, making our way to the historic town of Graaf-Reinet where we dedicate time to paying visits to a variety of museums, sauntering about the town, socialising with the locals and marvelling at the remarkable architecture. Following this, we cross the majestic Outeniqua Mountains – a divider between the dry interior and dense coastal Garden Route area. We arrive at the Lodge where our next three nights will be spent.

Here, our days will be devoted to exploring this well-known area and its various attractions. We will journey to the Tsitsikamma coastal National Park where we will trek through part of the highly commended ‘Otter Trail’. Upon our return trip, adrenaline junkies will be able to try out the world’s highest bungee jump at 216 metres. Otherwise, the rest of the clients are free to opt for a sea kayaking trip or a mountain bike ride at their own expense. We pay visits to bronzed beaches, the Knysna Heads, and have time to explore the old woodcutter town of Knysna. One lunch and one dinner will be at your own expense. Meals Included: Breakfast X3, Lunch X2, Dinner X2

Days 16-18: Cape Town

We have a relaxing start to the day, departing from Knysna and journeying through the Lake District on to the ‘Whale Route’ that winds around the Hottentots Holland Mountains, toward our final destination. Upon our arrival in the Mother City of Cape Town in the early evening, we check into the Drifters Cape Town Lodge, located on the beachfront of Sea Point. Cape Town is most definitely one of the most stunning cities in the world and it is here that we will spend our last two days of the tour, visiting Cape Point, Hout Bay, the Waterfront, secluded beaches, a wine farm and various other highlights. We will also embark on a hike up the city’s iconic Table Mountain. Lunches and dinners in Cape Town will be at your own expense.
