Rwanda Gorilla Primates Tour is a customized experience for the exploration of Rwanda primates. Experience the endangered mountain gorillas and chimpanzees plus several primates on your way. Having 10 gorilla families and 2 chimpanzee groups but not forgetting that chimpanzee trekking is more active than gorilla trekking.

Volcanoes National Park is the Rwanda section of the more extended Virunga Conservation Area shared between Uganda, Rwanda and Congo DRC. It is named after the chain of nine volcanoes which make its territory, including Karisimbi (4.507 m), Visoke, Sabinyo, Muhavura. The altitude ranges from 2400 m to the 4.000 and above of the peaks. Since 2003 the park offers the possibility to visit the families of the endangered golden monkeys. Mount Visoke hosts the tombs of the American primatologist Dian Fossey and of the gorilla cemetery. The most well known activity is the Rwanda Gorilla Primates Tour tracking to one of the six habituated families. This program can be arranged for starting from Kampala or from Kigali.

Itinerary

On arrival you will be picked up from the airport by our tour guide. He will brief you about your 6 days Rwanda primates safari and hereafter you will start with a tour within Rwanda’s capital (Kigali). In Kigali city, you will tour the local markets, the Kigali genocide memorial, the kandt museum, and the craft markets. At the end of the day, the guide will drive you to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay

After you breakfast at the hotel you will start the engine for nyungwe national park and on your way, you will be welcomed and entertained by the beautiful sceneries up to nyungwe forest national park which is found in the southern part of Rwanda. On your way, you will have a stopover at the king’s palace for wands cultural history. In the evening you will arrive at nyungwe forest national park and then go to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Leaving the lodge very early in the morning with your packed breakfast you will go to the park headquarters as early as 5:00 am. You will leave the park headquarters with rangers and trackers ready to go find the chimpanzees in the wild. During you chimpanzee trekking process you also stand a chance many more primates include the host’s monkeys, the Ruwenzori colobus, the red-tailed monkey plus a group of 300 bird species enjoying the forest.

After the trekking, you will go back to the lodge for lunch and then in the afternoon, you will go back to the park for the canopy walk.

One-fourth day after your breakfast you will transfer to the home of mountain gorillas in Rwanda but on your way, you will have a stopover at Lake Kivu and then proceed to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Very early in the morning you will the lodge having your packed breakfast and a few snacks ready for the gorillas. The guide will drive you to the park headquarters where you will be briefed before you go for the trekking. You be assigned to a group of gorillas and you will leave the headquarters with trackers and rangers ready to look around the bamboo trees looking for the gorillas once you find them you will spend one hour with them and then leave the park back to the lodge for refreshment and lunch.

In the evening you will embark on the cultural encounters where you will visit the ibyiwacu cultural village for their different cultures, dances, meals, and songs wards you will head back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

After your breakfast, you are in your lazy and relaxed mood as you get ready for the 2hours and 30minutes drive back to Kigali. The tour guide will either drive you to the hotel or the airport and this marks the end of your memorable 6 days primate safari to Rwanda.

How fit do I need to be to do this trek?

Annapurna Base Camp is a Grade B or a moderately difficult trekking route. So any fit person can do this trek, even if you do not have any previous experience. You should be aware of what to expect and mentally prepare for it. Then, as long as you will too, you can.

How long do we walk every day when doing Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

On average, you walk about 4 to 6 hours per day. One or two days can be as less as 3hrs and one or two days can be as long as 7hrs.

What is the highest altitude reached in this trek?

The highest altitude reached is 4190m. This is the elevation of Annapurna Base Camp. ABC is the highest we will climb in this trek.

What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

Yes, you can charge batteries en route. Charger should be brought. There are hot shower facilities as well. You may have to pay a certain amount for both ($1-$2). Negotiate. Also, a hot water facility could be free at a lower elevation.

Are there ATMs on the way to Annapurna Base Camp?

No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.

What about internet access?

Yes. The Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. The Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.

Is it necessary to hire Guides/trekking agency for Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during the offseason.

It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.

How much do guides and porters cost?

For the Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.
