The East Africa Wildlife Safari Expedition traverses through Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania’s best game parks.
You will get a chance to see East Africa’s rich wildlife and cultural heritage. The tour allows visitors to have the incredible experience of seeing chimps and birds in different habitats, seeing chimps in two different parks of Rwanda and Uganda, with each park offering its unique attractions.
From Kigali in Rwanda, you will visit Nyungwe Forest, the largest afro-montane forest in Central Africa for chimps, birds and other primates. Continue to Parc National des Volcans in the north for gorillas. Track chimpanzee and see birds as well as game drives including lion, buffalo, leopard, and elephants in Uganda’s – Queen Elizabeth Park and in Kenya and Tanzania your safari takes you to Amboseli, Ngorongoro, Serengeti, Lake Manyara, Aberdares, Lake Nakuru and Masai Mara. Remember that between Kenya and Tanzania you have the most diverse and abundant wildlife in the whole of Africa. The spectacular scenery and varied ecosystems are a bonus worth mentioning.
DAY 1: Arrival
Arrive Kanombe airport, met by our smiling guides. Greet and transfer to Kigali. [Approximate driving time: ½ hour] Time permitting, go for a tour of the city (optional). This includes a visit to a genocide memorial and a visit to the local general goods market and the craft centre. O/N: Hotel chez Lando or Mille Collines Hotel (L).
Day 2: Kigali – Butare – Nyungwe Forest NP.
After breakfast you will depart for Butare the second largest city of Rwanda and is regarded as the intellectual city of Rwanda. It hosts the National Museum, several academic (University) and research institutions. On your way to Butare you will visit Nyanza (currently Nyabisindu) the former Mwami’s palace (King’s palace) and the seat of the feudal monarchy. The palace has been reconstructed to its 19th century state and shows a traditional dome that can be compared with the Kabaka’s palace of Buganda. You will visit the National Museum there, which, is one the well set-up if not the finest ethnographic museum of East Africa. DAY 3: Nyungwe Forest
Go chimp tracking and birding. There are different beautiful trails available and the superb waterfall trail of Gisakura is probably the most rewarding. The hiking time is 2 up to 3 hours and is a very enjoyable hike accessible to everybody! If you missed the Angolan Colobus you can have another try near to the tea factory where another troop is hosted. Nyungwe Forest is the only place in Africa where troops of 300 black-and-white colobus monkeys (Angolan Colobus) can be seen jumping in the trees! A spectacular sight! Lunch. DAY 4: Nyungwe Forest
Guided nature walk in the forest to see a variety of animals and some of the three hundred bird species found here. Picnic lunch. Bird the hotsprings in Rugarama, time permitting. Return late afternoon. O/N: ORTPN Gisakura Guest House (FB)
DAY 5: Nyungwe to Parc National des Volcans
Return to Kigali or pass via Gisenyi to Ruhengeri. Drive north to Kinigi via Ruhengeri. Enjoy the rolling hills for which Rwanda is well known. [Approximate driving time: 6 hours] O/N: Hotel La Palme/Virunga Hotel/Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (FB)
DAY 6: Parc National des Volcans
After breakfast you will report at the ORTPN headquarters where your driver-guide will accomplish the necessary formalities for you. You will meet your ranger guide(s) for a briefing about the greatest animal experience ever. We will drive you to the slopes of one of the Virunga volcanoes for your trekking. After the trekking, lunch at your hotel or at Ruhengeri and in the afternoon, if time allows, an excursion to explore the beautiful lakes in the region: Lake Bulera & Ruhondo. An excellent view of the Virunga chain of Volcanoes can be seen while there depending on weather conditions.

DAY 7: Parc National des Volcans to Kisoro in Uganda
In Parc National des Volcans: Track the golden monkeys, climb the awesome Visoke volcano, trek to Karisoke Research Centre which was set up by the famous primatologist Dian Fossey. After the trekking, lunch and transfer to Uganda. [Approximate driving time: 2 hours]. O/N: Travellers Rest Hotel (FB)
DAY 8: Lake Mutanda to Lake Bunyonyi
Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla Park in Uganda. Either guided nature walk in Gahinga or climb a volcano. Visit the natural, beautiful-looking Lake Mutanda, surrounded by the volcanoes, take a walk on the shores. Lunch in Kisoro. In the afternoon, transfer to lake Bunyonyi for an evening scenic views of the most beautiful lake in the region. O/N: Bunyonyi Overland Resort/Arcadia Cottages (FB)
DAY 9: Lake Bunyonyi to Queen Elizabeth Park
Transfer to Queen Elizabeth Park, game viewing and birding on the way. Lunch on arrival. Afternoon game drive. [Approximate driving time: 4 hours] O/N: Simba Safari Camp (FB).
DAY 10: Queen Elizabeth Park
The half day Chimp tracking in Kyambura gorge. Afternoon boat cruise birding on Kazinga Channel for relaxing on the lake rich in many bird species. Later in afternoon transfer to the airport for your flight to Nairobi, Kenya. On arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you will be met by Nature Bound Africa Staff and transferred to the Nairobi Safari Club. Overnight at Nairobi Safari Club based on Bed and Breakfast basis.
Day 11: Nairobi – Masai Mara
After breakfast 0730 hrs drive through the floor of the Rift Valley via the Masai town of Narok to arrive at Kenya’s most populous park, the Masai Mara Game Reserve in time for lunch at Mara Sopa Lodge / Mara Simba Lodge. Later proceed with game en-route to Mara Simba Lodge, Masai Mara.
Masai mara has migrants, well over 450 species of animals have been recorded here. Although July, August and September are the months when the Mara plains are filled with migrating wildebeest and zebra, there is also resident wildlife year round. The famous Masai tribesmen live within the dispersal area of the game reserve. Dinner and overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge / Mara Simba Lodge.
Day 12: Mara – Lake Nakuru
0830 HRS After breakfast leave for Nakuru with a game drive enroute. Arrive in Lake Nakuru National park in time for lunch. Lunch at Lion Hill lodge.
1500 hrs Afternoon game drive. This is a chance to visit a unique sanctuary catering for a sizable number of the endangered rhinocerous and the Rothschild giraffe. Lake Nakuru National Park is situated in the Rift Valley region of Kenya and comprises of the blue-green Lake Nakuru, bushy grasslands and yellow acacia woodlands, the Great Rift Valley Escarpments hills and ridges. The park’s swamps and marshes are home to water birds including the famed pink flamingo and around 450 terrestrial bird species. The buffalo, white rhino, zebra, giraffe, hyena and over 56 mammal species are in abundance. Your stay is in world class lodges such as the spectacular Sarova Lion Hill Lodge or Lake Nakuru lodge. Alternatively you have the option of pitching in special campsites namely Reedbuck, Nyuki, Nyati, Rhino, Soysambu, Chui and Naishi. Day 13: Lake Nakuru – Aberdares
Breakfast at Lake Nakuru National Park. Depart after breakfast for Treetops Lodge, one of the 4 Kenya’s Tree Hotels. Lunch is at Out span hotel. Later transfer to Treetops lodge for game viewing. Afternoon of game watching from the comfort of your room, or bar or Restaurant. Before you reach the lodge it is advisable to have a stop to admire the 73m plunge of the Thompson Falls named after the Scottish explorer who first saw them in the late 1800s. Dinner and overnight at Treetops lodge.
Day 14: Aberdares – Nairobi – Amboseli
0800 hrs. You are picked up after breakfast, drive to Nairobi for lunch at the Thorn Tree Restaurant. You then proceed south to Amboseli National Park and check in at Amboseli Sopa Lodge at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. Dinner and overnight at Amboseli Sopa Lodge
Day 15: Amboseli National Park
0630 hrs early morning game drive. Breakfast at the lodge. Morning at leisure. Lunch at the Lodge.
1500 hrs Afternoon game drive. The snows of the mountain forms a majestic backdrop to one of Kenya’s most popular spectacular displays of wildlife – lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, cheetah, buffalo and host of plains game, creating Kenya’s most sought after photographer’s paradise. After lunch proceed for an afternoon game drive in the Park. Dinner and overnight at Amboseli Sopa Lodge.
Day 16: Amboseli – Arusha – Serengeti
After breakfast, game drive will be provided and later drive to Serengeti National reserve.
1300 hrs Lunch at the Serengeti Sopa Lodge.
1500 hrs Depart for the afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Sopa Lodge.
Day 17: Serengeti
0630 HRS Early morning game drive. Breakfast at the lodge Morning at leisure.
1230 hrs Lunch at the Serengeti Sopa Lodge.
1500 hrs Afternoon game drive. Serengeti is Africa’s largest national park and also one of its most popular. The park has an incredible number of animals, wildebeest being the most populous followed by zebra. Elephants are notably scarce. Cheetahs and the rest of the big cats are regularly sighted in the plains. The few remaining endangered black rhino are restricted to the Moru Koppies area.
The park is also famous for the wildebeest migration, often described as one of the most impressive spectacle in the natural world. Arrive in time for lunch. Afternoon proceed for a game drive. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Sopa Lodge.
Day 18: Serengeti – Ngorongoro
After breakfast, drive with game drive en-route to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Lunch at the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge.
Day 19: Ngorongoro
Early breakfast After breakfast descend into the crater for with picnic lunches for a day game drive. Ngorongoro Crater is one the largest intact caldera in the world and one of the most spectacular sights in the whole of Africa.
The Olduvai Gorge in the neighbourhood is the site where some off Africa’s oldest hominid fossils were found. The Crater has one of the densest predators populations in Africa. Elephant, lion, zebra, wildebeest and a host of other resident animals are to be found here. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge.
Day 20: Ngorongoro – Arusha -Nairobi
Breakfast at your lodge. 0830 hrs You will drive back to arrive in Arusha in time for lunch.
After lunch continue to Nairobi on regular shuttle bus and drop off at Panafric hotel. Pick up from Panafric hotel and drive to Carnivore Restaurant. This restaurant is famous for its succulent steaks as welcome or farewell dinner. Later You will be transferred by Nature Bound Africa staff to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight home.
